The Roku Express is their entry-level player. This player is really a no-nonsense device that includes the Express player as well as the remote control. The player itself can only do 2 things - plug-in power and plug in an HDMI cable, which connects to your TV. This made setup incredibly simple, which we feel is extremely helpful. While the device only supports 720p and 1080p video (sorry, no 4K streaming), this is a great entry-level device that will allow you to see what streaming video is all about, if you're thinking about cord cutting or want to add to what you have available from your cable provider.
Roku also has an Express product that allows you stream the available services to "old" TVs that use what is called a composite connection. The composite connection is a series of red, white and yellow cords that provide audio and video to your old tv. This version of the Express player is a little more expensive than the other Express player and is only available at Walmart.
We really loved the Roku brand because the interface was consistent across all of their devices, which means that even if you have different devices in different rooms, the viewing experience was exactly the same across them all.
